The Keys…

In the late 1980s our family began traveling to the Florida’s Keys.  The trips purpose was to dive for lobster.  The Gals also enjoyed shopping, the beaches, God’s especially beautiful skies and water.  Our boat was an offshore Wellcraft with a cuddy cabin that had a potty.

Those early trip were with Winter Park friends, the Mullers and Kirkconnells who had kids of similar ages. The first adventures were to Key West.  We limited out daily.  The limit on lobster was 5 per person. Often limiting in the morning then returning in the afternoon to limit out again.  Returning home from those early days with our hundred quarter cooler filled with lobster tails.  God was good to us as we enJOYed His tropical waters!

Eventually our Key’s group included both Winter Park and Leesburg friends.  Marathon instead of Key West became our destination.  Cameron Kirkconnell one of the ‘Kids’ on the trips eventually took his diving skills to the ultimate when he became a Champion Free Diving Spearfisherman. (See his video below where he recently set a new world’s record.)

The blessings of those trips continued to this year.  The Kids are grown, married and have their own lives but us old men continue the annual trek.  We could be called, “Gray heads chasing tails.”   That is not to be taken in the wrong way!  Still Blessed…
