This has been a difficult year. The death of anyone close to us is hard to deal with. Jan’s death was unexpected, brutally painful to watch and left a large void in my life and soul. All the stages of grief have come. Some still and will always revisit.
Through all the days, weeks and months of grieving George MacDonald’s powerful spiritual insights offered strength. Each night readings from his books or meditations have brought me peace before sleeping. That kind of peace is hard to have and hold especially when confronted with the questions: What now, what do I have to offer, or of what use can I be?
My ego wants some grandiose plan for my now altered future. But I have come to realize that is not how this whole thing works. As so many have said, “The past is gone, let it go. The future hasn’t arrived yet. All we have is now. One now following by all the other nows.” It is that simple. To breathe in each moment is all we can do.
Trusting that the Good Lord shall reveal our next steps on His Path for us…Or as MacDonald wrote:
“Doing the next right thing” from George MacDonald:
“No man can order his life, for it comes flowing over him from behind…. The one secret of life and development is not to devise and plan but to fall in with the forces at work—to do every moment’s duty aright—that being the part in the process allotted to us: and let come—not what will, for there is no such thing—but what the eternal thought wills for each of us, has intended in each of us from the first.”
