Hope of the Greatest Gift ever…

With Advent comes the Hope of the Greatest Gift ever given…

As Christians we believe that the Creator, the Author of all that is, or was, or will be, humbled Himself and became one of us for the sole purpose of saving us from our selves. He came from beyond time and space into our reality just for us. He sent Jesus Christ His Son as a child to do for us what we could not do for ourselves. He did this because of His Love for us. I read this today in ‘Forward Day by Day’:

2 Peter 1:2-3 May grace and peace be yours in abundance in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.

The love of God is abundant, rich, and overflowing. Christ comes to us in love for our salvation. God seeks our redemption, not our punishment. Christ invites our love and joy, not our fear. God becomes human so we may become divine. Christ comes to us in humility and shares our life. He embraces human limitation and mortality so we may live in God and “become participants of the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4). God doesn’t love by half measures. Our Lord gives everything we need to share this life.

Our life in God suggests a perspective of abundance in all we do. Our Lord’s generosity can thrive in us. Love increases as we give it away. There is no scarcity of God’s love, and sharing will not decrease it. We stand for our Lord when we humble ourselves to serve others. God’s love will flow through us to the people in our world, and that’s when we know love best.

Post Script: I like this particular version of “For unto us a Child is born” because it is so Anglican/Episcopalian.
