So we surrender? Now what?
JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis have been my spiritual resources for this most elemental question. I admit that Tolkien’s ‘Gollum’ is the ‘self image’ that most portrays my small ‘self’. That self is obsessed with self-will. That is ‘my precious’. My self-will can run riot!
So after surrendering we must be remade or as Jesus said, “We must be born again.” Then: Who am I? When the Good Lord created each of us, He envisioned our true Self which contained His spark or light. Yet He allowed us ‘free will’ to make our own choices. My rebel heart can make wrong decisions by choosing to follow my will not His Will for my life.
The remaking is a daily process. As simple as doing the next right thing. Letting His Spirit be our guide. The Bible is the true source that nurtures this daily process. Ultimately it is doubtful that in this life we will ever achieve our true Selves. For we do live in the Shadowlands. This life prepares us for the Life to come…
